Greetings for the New Year and Welcome Back!!!

January 5, 2015

Greetings for the New Year and Welcome Back!!!

Lovely Parents and Community Members~

It is my hope that everyone found some peace, relaxation and warmth during the Winter Break!  Our staff was able to visit friends and family from as far away as Sweden, Seattle, Portland, Colorado and California.  I cannot wait to hear from your children of the amazing adventures your family has been on most recently.

Thank you very much for taking the time to take the mid-year survey.  In the coming months, many of your suggestions and ideas will come to life as part of our offering.  Your continued support and dedication to our community is THE reason Integrity Academy is such a wonderful place to be.

There are a lot of exciting things coming our way in part two of Unit 3!  The Author's Chair held at Book People, the Dyslexia Screening by Dr. Books, YogaSong Teacher training are just a few of the special events that will be on our collective calendars.

January also brings staff changes!

Nick will begin to work with the children as our new part-time intern as he transitions out of the office and into the classroom.  He plans to bring nature hikes, Socratic dialogue and the Hero's Journey to our students.

Shahnaz will begin to work with the entire student body as our part-time Yoga, Cooking and Gardening Mentor.  After the training our staff had with Anodea Judith and the workshops with Cynthia Robleswelsch and Dr. Mauricio Padilla, we decided to step up our commitment to these activities.  Shahnaz was selected to be this Mentor due to her strong skill sets and experience in these areas.  She will visit every classroom every week to do hands on lessons with the children.  Be on the look out for some of these creations in your own kitchens, as I am sure the students will be very excited to share their new knowledge with you!

Ryan will begin working with Colleen in Level 1 as Mentor.  He spent most of December in the Level 1 classroom and it was wonderful!  Ryan will continue to bring his soothing smiles and calming presence to our community at drop off and pick up everyday.  He will also continue his in depth training in Awareness Through the Body and/or Positive Behavior Support to share with the entire staff in the coming months.

With all of the love in my heart, I wish you the happiest of new years!

In gratitude,

Ali Ronder
Executive Director

Integrity Academy mentors will start a new, school wide tradition with the new year. The Circle will begin at 9:20am and last around 10-15 minutes, so in the event that you arrive with a student after drop off and are unable to find the class, please check the Courtyard and Auditorium first.

Monday Morning Circle Schedule:
1. Whole School Circle Introduction
2. 4 Agreements: Paired/Individual Level 3/4 students will say each agreement & and whole school repeats.
3. Song: Make New Friends
4. Closing: Wish for a great week!

What do allergies, behavior issues and learning challenges all have in common?

Finding the underlying causes for learning challenges is what Dr. Phyllis Books loves doing. She investigates the possible rolls of allergies, brain chemistry imbalances, nutritional choices as well as structural and neurological components. in children who shows signs of dyslexia, ADHD, and sensory processing issues.  How these variables play out on different days can create big confusion in both diagnosis and treatment possibilities.

Come join Dr. Books and learn how she navigates through the confusing variables that affect children's learning and behavior. Watch a live demonstration of some of her analysis methods and her hands-on light touch therapy for correcting neurological issues.

Laboratorios del Gusto at Integrity Academy

December 8, 2014

Last week Laboratorios del Gusto was featured at Integrity Academy. The children had an opportunity to interact with fruits and vegetables and begin the internal dialogue of "real food" and how important it is to make good choices about what you put into your body.

IA Community Events

Hi everybody!  We have an exciting Winter Fair planned for Thursday December 18th, the last day of school before the break.  The students are going to create arts and crafts to sell from 2pm to 3:30pm.  We are raising money for our communal needs, a combination of aquaponics system installation, gardening plans, and play ground improvements while celebrating the end of the semester and the holiday season.  We hope to have a fun and community-oriented event where the students have an opportunity to exhibit leadership, create arts and crafts, and raise money for their school!

The teachers will carve out a bit of class time to create arts and crafts to sell, but we also need some help and support from home.  Please encourage your kids to make items to sell.  Some ideas from our brainstorming session with the kids include: snow globes, comic books, tree ornaments, jewelry, shakers and noise makers, and pottery.

We also need help in bringing baked goods to sell.  Please email Moyaif you are willing to bring a baked good.  There is also a need for some help with set up and break down, so if you are available to help the day of, please send an email so we can create a plan to support the kids in this event.

We look forward to celebrating with you on Thursday, December 18th!

Parenting Now: Tackling Sex and Relationships, A Workshop by Carrie Contey, PhD

Appropriate for parents of kids of all ages.

This is in depth, supportive and motivating workshop for parents will address the topics of sex and relationships.

Whoa baby! Sex and relationships are big topics that most of us have not spent much time thinking about for ourselves, much less discussing with others. Let’s get to it! It’s an essential part of your humanhood, a very important aspect of your partnership and a facet of life that your children need your guidance around.

In this 2 hour talk, we will dive into the following:

>> Discover what messages you received growing up about your body, sexuality, and intimacy and how those connect to who you are today
>> Identify how to guide your people so they grow up feeling confident, clear, and boundaried about their own bodies and sexuality
>> Gain clarity on how you want to present and model the topics of healthy sexuality and relationships
>> Experiment with bringing more passion and pleasure to your life in general
